What residents receive
What it costs in the FY2027 Budget
Loading the FY2027 expense view…
The table brings together loaded FY2027 accounts assigned to Library, recreation, parks, history, culture, public media and community programs across General Fund, revolving, special-revenue and special-article funds.
Missing is not zero. The grouped amount is not a complete Cost or a measure of community value.
Land is also a service choice
The value is not limited to registrations or fees. Residents receive places to walk, gather, play, encounter nature and preserve town character.
In its 2025 report, the Open Space & Recreation Committee said it maintained web pages with maps, photographs and directions for all ten systems.
2025 work included the accessible Sawmill Pond trail, clearing, kiosks, updated maps, repainted blazes, signage and volunteer projects at five named locations.
Parks staff reported caring for Spec Pond, Memorial Fields, Brainard Park and other fields and facilities; the Hiking Club reported more than 360 members and over 90 people joining at least one hike.
The stewardship choice: Keeping land in public or open-space use has value even when no single dollar amount captures it. Depending on ownership, legal protections and required approvals, the alternative could be choosing to develop or sell the property.

The Library’s 2025 report connects its mission to collections, programs, spaces and use measures, giving residents a more complete view than a Budget line alone.
Participation shows activity. By itself, it does not establish access, quality, efficiency, unmet demand or outcome.
